After the message from Anubis, McKay mocks his grand gesture and is curious as to why the message has only appeared now (although with the Iris slowing things down, perhaps this was supposed to be moments before death). While McKay is having a good laugh, Carter reminds him that they have 54 hours left before the stargate explodes.
A few scientists are coming up with options, such as trying to make the stargate McKay interrupts as he has an idea – as radiation can travel the “wrong way” through the stargate, they could rig up an EMP and blast it through the stargate, hopefully knocking out the weapon on the other side. Carter doesn’t like the idea, as it means opening the Iris and lowering the amount of time – Hammond gives her until McKay is ready to come up with another idea.

On Chulak, Bra’tac manages to figure out which planet Anubis is using his weapon from. They head to the cargo ship to head over there, and Rya’c says he will join, pointing out that Teal’c just said that he does not doubt him. He’s allowed to join them on the mission, and there’s no time to argue. They head to the planet and it’s heavily guarded. Teal’c initially tells Rya’c to stay on the ship, admitting that he’s not ready for Rya’c to die. Gliders are dispatched and it seems Anubis can now detect cloaked ships – as it’s just as dangerous on the ship, Rya’c joins Teal’c and Bra’tek in heading to the planet.
Carter is still sceptical about McKay’s plan, saying it will reduce their time by half. She tells McKay that she hates her when he’s an ass about it. The iris is opened and the device is activated, but it doesn’t seem to do anything except causing a load of sparks. Carter closes the iris, but gets shocked when she does so. McKay jokes about her hating him more when she wakes up, then seems genuinely concerned about her.

Teal’c, Bra’tac and Rya’c ring down to the planet and take out all the Jaffa in the nearby area, although Rya’c gets hit, but he’s only wounded. He asks how they managed to not get hit – Teal’c says they moved about a lot while Bra’tac admits that luck has a lot to do with it. Teal’c is amused by his honesty, and realises it’s what his son needs to hear. They head off to try and find the weapon. They manage to find it and it’s a large ring of pillars with energy between them and shooting through the stargate. Teal’c says it looks like technology of the Ancients (making Rya’c realise the Gou’ald didn’t make the stargates) and if they destroy it, Anubis probably can’t easily build a new one. They tell Rya’c to stay behind due to his injury.
In the Infirmary, McKay visits Carter. He annoys her while also apologising. He talks about wanting to be a pianist and that he was good at it – but his teacher told him to quit as he had no sense of art whatsoever. He tells Carter that science is just the same. He’s really good at it, but Carter is an artist. He admits that his attitude is to do with jealousy and feeling inadequate, and admits that one of Sam’s crazy ideas is the only way they’ll get out of this. Although she doesn’t have one.

Some scientists discuss possible solutions, which Carter and McKay agree won’t work. McKay notices Jonas looking around the gate room, so Carter heads down. Jonas asks, if this is all sealed, how did they get the stargate here? Carter explains that there’s a shaft that they could use with a crane. Jonas asks if it can go back up. Carter initially says that it would be pointless, but then has an idea. They can move the stargate, transport it to the X-302 and fly it out into space. It can get far enough without hyperspace travel to blow it up at a safe distance. It will leave them without a stargate, but Colonel Chekov says they can loan theirs for full disclosure of technology and a payment. Hammond does point out that they have no guarantee that Anubis can’t just do this again.
Trying to get close to the weapon, Teal’c and Bra’tac end up getting captured by a Jaffa played by Aaron Douglas (who was previously another Jaffa that was a close friend of Bra’tac). He wants them to see the destruction of Earth, although questions the third person that was with them – a boy. He realises that it must be Teal’c’s son. Rya’c sees this, and notices a glider taking off, which gives him an idea.

Back on Earth, the X-302 is being completely stripped of everything to reduce the weight to account for how heavy the stargate is, and Jack will have to take it out on his own. The X-302 isn’t even going to take off from the ground – they’ve strapped it to the back of a plane to give it a boost. Jack sets off, but the ship starts shaking and has to ignite the rocket booster too early. He can’t reach a high enough altitude to enter orbit and starts falling. He asks for advice, but the only suggestion is McKay saying to nosedive into the ocean to slightly decrease the effects. Jack suggests the hyperdrive.
Carter says it’s worth the risk and McKay disagrees. His method will definitely save some people, while Carter’s could still result in everyone dying. Jonas points out that the instability of the naquadria is relative to how much power you’re trying to draw – and McKay says that they can lower the risks massively by doing a very short jump. After Carter writes a quick program to ignore the safety, Jack activates the hyperspace window and ejects. The gate is seen exploding in the sky, a safe enough distance away.

On the planet, Rya’c has managed to get aboard a glider, managing to shoot the Jaffa holding them access. He then manages to attack the weapon attacking the stargate (although the stargate has now shut down, so they’re worried they may be too late), managing to take out the weapon, which explodes – although Rya’c’s glider crashes.
At Stargate Command, they’re discussing the Stargate Program being shut down, as they can’t risk being attacked in the same way. McKay is confident that Carter will figure out a countermeasure fairly quickly. As he leaves, Carter gives him a kiss on the cheek as she no longer hates him, then tells him she was more attracted to him when she hated him, just to wind him up.

Hammond is offering Jack any position he wants, but Jack says he’s happy retiring with a little fishing boat. Hammond said he doesn’t know if the Stargate Program will ever recover and that he feels responsible for the teams still stuck off-world. They get interrupted by a call – it’s Teal’c in the cargo ship, letting them know that Rya’c has destroyed Anubis’ weapon.
We see a stargate being lowered into the gate room – their original gate is now back. America is paying the Russians for it while giving them plans for the X-302 and the upcoming X-303, along with another thing he doesn’t disclose. Jack speaks to Rya’c to congratulate him on being a good pilot, and Teal’c says that Rya’c will be returning with Bra’tac to get more Jaffa to rebel.

Jonas finally speaks to Jack and makes his case for joining SG-1. Jack says he doesn’t plame him for Daniel, but Jonas still wants to make things right and wants to prove that he can be as brave as Daniel. When Hammond asks Jack to accept a Russian member of SG-1, he suggests giving Russia their own team, and that he’s already picked a new member. We cut to Jonas joining SG-1 and setting off on a new mission.
So, that’s another plan of Anubis thwarted, and Teal’c gets some good moments with his son, with Bra’tac redeeming himself from The Warrior by saving Earth yet again. It’s also an interesting way to soften people into accepting Jonas, he just has a few moments instead of instantly joining the team.
