You never know what you’re going to get with Java games, some can be basic high score attack games, really short and basic games or surprisingly deep and detailed games that could compare with handheld consoles. This is, unfortunately, the really basic and short game, being a really dreadful shooter.

Each mission starts off with an extremely slow and long walk across the Gate Room, as the Stargate is dialled. It will disengage before you get there and you’ll have to wait a while for it to be dialled again. On each mission, you just slowly amble around and slowly shoot enemies.

In the first mission, a derelict Gou’ald ship has appeared above Abydos, so Jack heads over (he’s the only one you get to play as so there’s always an excuse for why the rest of SG-1 is busy). When you arrive on the ship, you kill a bunch of Jaffa (you’ll have to walk to the end of the long map then backtrack to get them all to spawn) then Apophis will appear.

You kill him and steal some naquadria technology from him (even though it wasn’t discovered until after they got rid of Apophis) then rush back to the gate, killing the Jaffa in the way.

In the second mission, Jack wants a holiday on Abydos and Hammond reluctantly agrees that it will be a good test for the new Stargate Operator. He dials the wrong address and Jack ends up on a snow planet. Jack finds some ruins, kills some giant spiders (I’m sure I’ve seen these exact spider sprites before) before going though some Jaffa to get home.

The third mission has Daniel (off screen) sending Jack to a paradise planet, where the people are in danger. You fight a Gou’ald called Aten before heading back.

The final mission starts with a tablet appearing though the Stargate, Aten isn’t dead and tells Jack he will be executed. Some Jaffa appear though the Stargate (the Iris isn’t mentioned) and once they’re dispatched, Teal’c and Jack follow them back (well, both would have just died as you can’t do that). You fight Aten again and it’s game over.

It’s short, it’s slow and it just feels awful to play and the story seems more like they browsed some random Stargate words and put them together while knowing nothing about what they mean.
