Stargate Command receives an incoming wormhole, and it’s the Tok’ra. Jack is currently the highest ranking officer in the control room, so he lets them in. Sam is excited about getting to see her father, but it’s Martouf and a couple of others. They’ve come with some bad news: Jacob has been captured by Sokar. Even worse, he’s been sent to the prison moon of Netu, modelled after Earth’s various versions of hell.
Only one person has ever escaped from Netu before: Jolinar. Martouf has brought along a memory device (as seen in the previous season finale) to help Sam try and access Jolinar’s memories. Jack wants to wait until Carter has figured out how Jolinar escaped, but as Martouf and Sam want to hurry, he goes along with them, with Teal’c and Daniel also along for the ride. As they’re about to head through the Stargate, Martouf mentions that they have to use a cargo ship to get to the moon as there’s no Stargate – a detail previously not mentioned, which Jack points out that he doesn’t like surprises.

On the ship, Carter tries to access memories, first getting her childhood memories of her dad telling her that her mother died in a car crash, before focusing on Jolinar, with Sam experiencing her torture. Martouf dials the device down and the plan is pretty much hoping that Sam will remember the escape once they were there – although Carter already has a sense that Martouf won’t like the answers.
Jack gets another surprise when they find out how they’re getting down to the planet as they’re not using the rings, but drop pods. The plan is to go down, slowly gain the trust of the locals and go on from there. The planet is full of fire and cages, and it looks rather unique for a planet in Stargate, a great setting for this. Once they walk into the main chamber, Carter immediately blows their cover by asking for Bynarr, the lord of Netu, and saying she is the host of Jolinar. They get thrown into the put by Bynarr’s First Prime and meet up with Jacob Carter, who needs medical attention soon.

Jacob also tells them that Sokar plans on overthrowing the other system lords soon, creating a single united Gou’ald powerhouse with no more infighting, a big problem for the galaxy. They let Teal’c know so he can warn the Tok’ra. Bynarr brings Carter before him – she now remembers that Jolinar seduced him to escape, and Sokar took an eye from him for allowing it to happen. He’s definitely not going to help them escape. As Bynarr is about to kill Sam, his First Prime comes in, kills Bynarr and puts Sam back in her cell.
SG-1 device a plan: Carter remembers that there’s a ring transporter that goes to the surface of the main planet. It’s Sokar’s palace, but it’s a start to an escape. However, if Teal’c can get in the way of the beam, they’ll end up in the cargo ship instead. They get to the ring room but Teal’c gets attacked by Death Gliders. The First Prime also comes back, taking SG-1 (along with Martouf and Jacob) as prisoners again. He then removes his helmet and announces that he’s regaining his true name: Apophis.

It’s a great episode, with a great cliffhanger. It’s not too surprising as Martouf said in the episode Apophis died that Sokar will probably revive him to torture him some more.
