I’ve never seen Chicken Little, but I know it’s about the “sky is falling” children’s tale but with aliens thrown into the mix. It was Disney’s first in-house fully CGI film and was during one of Disney’s slumps. Chicken Little is a poor little kid who gets bullied by pretty much everyone. Within the first few minutes of the game, his whining and annoying voice starts to grate and you quickly understand where these bullies are coming from.

The game is a typical 3D platformer where you run around levels gathering gubbins. The developed paid extra detail to the movement as, instead of moving in a straight line, Chicken Little wobbles around just like an actual chicken. Of course, this makes it a nightmare to actually move around and makes the entire game feel imprecise.

There’s a few additional stuff, like driving missions, avoiding obstacles and chases through corridors. There’s also dodgeball, which is also just a basic minigame. With better movement, this could have been a decent platformer as climbing and grinding work well, but it’s just not nice to play.

Poor
The overall package, however, still leaves us shocked as it delivers a high quality children’s product that remains fun despite its shortcomings. Chicken Little manages to keep the look and feel of the movie, but most of all it has a solid design and execution that proves just because a game is licensed doesn’t mean it is a waste of time and money.

Remake or remaster?
A collection of Disney 3D platformers would be nice.
