Arriving in a temple, the team discusses the look of an arch, and how it looks similar to the style used by the Mayans – who the Tlak’kahn mimic. They exit and find a large Mayan city – although the giant stone statue Da’kyll of indicates that this is Tlak’kahn. They get approached by people that look a bit like Tlak’kahn, but aren’t. They try to attack, but start collapsing as they’re all too weak.
While they seem to be claiming to be Tlak’kahn, they just seem to be trying to mimic them. Draga heals the one speaking to them, Mek’rod, and he explains that they are Mardan, but that the Tlak’kahn are the strongest people they know (having been conquered by them). Ec’co sets up a lab to create a cure to the virus that is currently affecting them.

Mek’rod meets with the council, explaining how the people from Earth are helping them, but it’s too late as the council have already contacted the Tlak’kahn – and Da’kyll soon arrives. He gives Mek’rod a bomb to stun the team and when Mek’rod says that Tlak’kahn meet their enemy face to face, Da’kyll laughs at him and orders him to do his job.
The team discuss wanting to be like the “tough kids” when they were younger, while Ec’co manages to create a cute. He hands it to Mek’rod, telling him he can create enough to cure everyone. Mek’rod seems very guilty, obviously hating what he’s been ordered to do, but everyone is knocked out and ends up in a stone cell. Mek’rod sneaks into the Tlak’kahn headquarters and hears Da’kyll mention that he introduced the sickness, and that these people will make for good cannon fodder if they survive.

When the Tlak’kahn come to move them, the team overpower the guards and leave the cell, only to come face to face with a massive tank. They get placed on the tank and transported towards the stargate, where a bunch of Mardans are waiting. They manage to fight and free the team, who find their way to their equipment and defeat the Tlak’kahn, throwing them into the cell.
As they’re leaving, Mek’rod says that he will let the Tlak’kahn go back to their homeworld then bury the stargate (the first time this solution has been mentioned). He talks about how the Mardan are going to be just like humans now, but Bonner tells them to be who they are instead of trying to mimic their heroes.

It’s an interesting concept, with the Mardans trying to copy the people that defeated them and letting it control who they are. It’s one of the better ones.
