Following straight on from the previous episode, with both SG-1 and SG-3 being effectively prisoners of the Tok’ra until they find a new base. To make matters worse, Sam is needed back home to say goodbye to her father, who is currently dying on a hospital bed. Thinking about her father gives Sam an idea – she asks the Tok’ra if they can cure cancer and they can. They do stress that they can’t just cure and leave the body, he has to commit to sharing his body.
The Tok’ra allow Sam and Jack to return to Earth, and Hammond approves of giving Jacob Carter the option to become a host – and clearance to know what his daughter has actually been doing – he’s been trying to get her to join NASA to become an astronaut. She tells him that she goes to other planets and he finds it difficult to believe. They say that they can cure his cancer and he can help forge a great alliance with Earth. He agrees to go with them.

As Sam, Jacob and Jack return to the Tok’ra base and see it in disarray, with people moving all over the place. Turns out the Gou’ald have discovered where the base is. SG-1 and SG-3 help with the evacuations while Sam and Jacob find Selmak – and it’s not just a case of Jacob accepting Selmak, but Selmak has to be happy with Jacob. They start talking and discussing how it would work, with Jacob unsure about sharing his body.
Jack finds Garshaw, the leader of the Tok’ra, and asks about how small the Gou’ald communication orbs can get. She says the Tok’ra don’t use them as they’re not secure, so Jack says he saw someone with one. They find the host of the spy in one of the crystal tunnels that is currently being collapsed. He lets himself get crushed due to the shame of betraying the Tok’ra.

After speaking to Selmak and her host – and discovering that the three of them have a similar sense of humour, Jacob agrees to the joining, but it will take time for Selmak to heal his body, and they can’t move them until it’s finished. Jack then spots the box with the communication orb – another Tok’ra has it now. He interrupts her and she reveals herself to be a Gou’ald spy. The Tok’ra say they’ll remove the Gou’ald and save the host.
Everyone evacuates to the stargate while Sam and Martouf wait for Selmak and Jacob to wake up. They make it to the stargate, but someone is dialling in. Sam dials out as quickly as possible but, as they have no way of knowing which wormhole worked, they just have to risk it – a rather scary prospect. I suppose that’s one reason why SGC sticks with their computer as they can get extra information from the wormhole. They arrive at work.

The Tok’ra agree that Earth does actually have a lot to offer, not just hosts, and agree to an alliance. However, they say that they’ll contact Earth – don’t get in touch with them earlier. Jacob heads off with them, starting a brand new journey. It’s nice for Earth to finally have decent allies – and ones that can save hosts from Gou’ald possession. An important milestone in the show.
