With the popularity of the first Lego Star Wars, another one was inevitable, and the beloved original trilogy was right there for adapting. So Traveller’s Tales took the sucessful formula that worked extremely well. So for those that enjoyed it, it’s more of the same, but using more well-liked films, with moments from A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The ship sections are a bit different, taking on a more isometric perspective, and it feels very floaty and imprecise. The controls just don’t feel right, and you often just have to blast loads of things. I really didn’t like these sections at all, and I don’t think they really fit the style, either.

But, I just don’t like this style of game at all. The gameplay overall I just find bland, and the easter eggs or hunt for objects (which you can’t do on your first run through the game) doesn’t compel me enough to want to shift though it all once, let alone multiple times.

Fine
So what’s Lego Star Wars 2’s secret? Answer: it’s made for kids. Not as in, dumbed down to the point where even a foetus would be idly glazing at its fingernails. But created so that every second is happy, and obvious, and gratifying, and fun.
