Open Season is another tie-in to a film I know nothing about. This at least starts you off at the beginning of the film and introduces its plot where the game would still make sense if you hadn’t seen the film. You play as a house trained bear called Boog, who rescues a deer named Elliot from a hunter’s car. Elliot then convinces Boog to help him get chocolate from a shop, resulting in them both being dumped in the wild.

Considering the game is around two and a half hours long, it takes an incredible amount of time to get started. For ages, you’re just slowly ambling around as Boog, occasionally throwing Elliot and other animals doing a bunch of dull fetch quests. There was so little to it that I couldn’t even think of a genre that the game would even quality for.

Eventually, though, the game does open up, becoming a puzzle-stealth game where you have to frighten hunters (throwing animals at them with different abilities) and even becoming an action game where Boog has become more in touch with his wild side, runs on all fours and can hit and throw the humans hunting down animals. It never gets too interesting, but it eventually does have some substance.

Fine
The problem with games based on family movies is that developers design with only kids in mind, while the film makers include something for all the family. his single-demographic focus is obvious in Open season.
