Released in Japan as Konami Wai Wai World, I decided on this English name due to Konami Krazy Racers (which was a Konami Wai Wai game in Japan). These are crossover games with various Konami properties, with this one being an adventure game. An evil alien is threatening the Earth, so a mad scientist enlists Konami Man (dressed as a superhero) and Konami Lady (in a bikini) to travel to other universes to save and recruit captured heroes.
Simon Belmont is among these heroes, and my plan for games like this is to use the Castlevania characters as much as possible, so I travelled to Castlevania world first. The gameplay is very much like a mixture of the original Castlevania and a bit of Vampire Killer, with it being a side scroller with annoying stairs. Everyone has their own basic attack (Simon’s whip has a much better range than other people punching) with a sub weapon hidden somewhere for them to find. It plays quite nicely.
The Vampire Killer part is due to the need to find keys to save the heroes. These aren’t hidden behind blocks, though, and exploration is really well done, and in some areas you can even spot how to progress so you know which direction to head in. With this being a game made to be silly and fun, the difficulty isn’t brutal (enemies drop plenty of hearts, which are health in this game)..
The assortment of characters is quite fascinating too. On top of the Konami Heroes and Simon, you also have Goemon, Fuuma (from an RPG called Getsu Fūma Den which has an action sequel on 2022), A Moai head from Gradius and two more surprising guests from some licenced games Konami had at the time: the great ape Kong Kong and a kid called Mikey, from a film called The Goonies (Sean Astin’s character). Most have abilities to get to new areas for some extra bonuses, such as Kong jumping high and Mikey fitting in small areas

Fun
Even as you’re playing it and coming to the slow realization that what you’re playing is actually quite crappy, you still want this premise and these characters to come together and blow you away. I don’t want a re-release of this. I want a remaster, and I want to see what happens.

Remake or remaster?
A re-release with an English translation would be great. There was a mobile version in 2006 that replaced the film characters with ones from Antarctic Adventure and Upa.
Official Ways to get the game
There’s no official way to get Konami Krazy World.
