I tried watching Bad Boys 2, but I really couldn’t understand what anyone in the film was saying. It’s a buddy cop action film with a sprinkling of comedy, and the game expands upon some plot points from the film. You play as either Will Smith or the other person (the graphics aren’t good enough to tell) and make your way through a third person shooter.

And what a strange third person shooter it is. First of all, the controls are awful. For ages I got stuck crouching for a while as I didn’t realise that to have to be perfectly still to switch between crouch and stand. Aiming is also atrocious, with it being extremely sluggish.

And then it comes to the cover mechanics and, oh boy, are they bad. You can’t take cover anyway, only on specific circles. There’s no consistency to these. The side of some doors have them, while others don’t. You can encounter alleys where all but one dumpster has a cover icon. What’s worse is that you have to rely on this cover mechanic.

Once you are in cover you can pop out (you can’t move sideways) and get sent to a third person view. The game is then essentially a really bad light gun shooter. Enemies run to their position and stand still for you to shoot and they don’t react to anything at all. It’s one of the worst third person shooters I’ve played

Worst
Perhaps the saddest–and funniest–thing about Bad Boys: Miami Takedown is that it couldn’t even serve its original purpose. This game was initially announced as a marketing tie-in to the DVD release of Bad Boys II last year. And here it is–a year later–and the game is just now on store shelves. When a game manages to fail even as a cheap marketing ploy, you know you’ve got a stinker on your hands, and this is most certainly what this offering is.
