With Spider-Man 2 setting the scene for how well superhero games can be made, it wasn’t long until other heroes followed suit with open world games. Hulk: Ultimate Destruction brings the big green menace to a large city, with a big focus on his speed and ability.

While other Hulk games just have Hulk smash stuff, in Ultimate Destruction has him running up buildings and making large jumps, while also running really fast. He controls quite well and it’s fun to leap around, causing mayhem.

On top of this, the game simply lets you have fun as well. The damage you record isn’t tracked, there’s no morality system or anything like that, meaning you can use civilians as projectiles against helicopters, picking up their cars to smash tanks and so on. The only things you can’t kill are cows, which become bludgeoning tools that won’t break apart when you pick them up.

I found the main story to have some annoying missions – especially ones where you have to defend buildings, which can be brutal – but luckily the game has a ton of challenge missions which is where the game shines, making use of different abilities in fun and unique ways.

Fun
This is very enjoyable on the whole. Care has been taken with the subject matter and there’s obviously been a great deal of effort put into making the best Hulk game that’s ever been.

Remake or remaster?
A remaster would be nice.
