Part of the “Super Deformed” (chibi) style of Gundam games, this reminds me a lot of the one I played on Virtual Boy: a turn based tactical game where combat is determined by bouts of real time combat. That said, this is very much expanded with a lot more to it.

The combat plays out a bit like an arena fighter, but with a lot more focus on range attacks. You control one unit, dodging attacks while trying to land hits in, with some units having special attacks (one reverses movement, which is always annoying). The CPU is so bad at this that you can easily take out much stronger (or multiple) units.

There is a small amount of tactic in the turn based section, as units adjacent to the one you’re attacking will join in, controlled by the CPU. This is where the weak CPU is a disadvantage as I found that the additional units took far more damage than if I’d done the fight with a single unit.

This game really has the same fatal flaw as the Virtual Boy game: when there’s no advantage to who attacks first, there’s not really any need to pay attention to the turn-based side of things.

Poor
Scenario mode seems to serve very much as a tutorial mode to set you up for the endless Capsule Wars mode with randomly generated maps. In Capsule Wars you can raise your level, collect more gundams and just have endless fun. The Fighting of 100 is more of an enjoyable bonus mode.
