Also known as Egg Mania: Eggstreme Madnes in North America, presumably because of the waffle brand. This is a puzzle game that has you controlling a character jumping around the field instead of the blocks directly. You an an opponent are scrambling to build a tower and make it to a hot air balloon before the water catches up to you. When you start playing, it’s a ton of fun.
Blocks fall down in crates and you can pick them up, rotate them and place them. The game encourages you to complete full rows, as any incomplete rows will collapse when the water reaches it. Once you’re near the top, you can then to a mad dash to jump to the hot air balloons, as your character just needs to get close to it. On top of blocks, there are also power-ups to help you our attack your opponent.
But once the novelty of it wears off, it becomes apparent that there’s no depth. Completing rows will get you extra blocks, so there’s no reason to not do full rows, and as the blocks fall in crates, you can pick and choose which ones you want, so you’re not forced to place an awkward block. This means that the fun at the start doesn’t last very long, as there’s only one strategy and the original modes don’t really mix things up, either.
Fine
It’s not particularly addictive, there’s nothing that really grabs you form the word go (unlike the original Tetris) and, visually speaking, it’s all gone a bit Amiga. And the fact it, as 40-odd quid, there are far more important, and far more enjoyable games out there to spend your hard-earned wedge on.

Remake or remaster?
The core concept is a neat idea, it just needs to be part of a better puzzle game.
