Another year, another Madden, and the most noticeable change is that they’ve dropped the first half of the year from the title of the game. There is a new gameplay feature in that you can focus on your catchers for greater control when doing passes, and you can not create a fan, featuring a surprisingly robust character creator (you just can’t assign the fan to a custom team). The playbook has also changed, and it’s no longer intuitive for people like me.

Updates are very thin on the ground. There’s no new motion capture, the visuals haven’t been improved, nothing. All this leaves Madden 2006 as an impressive stand-alone sports game, but the most disappointing in the series for years.
