The developers of this game, NDcube, have an odd early history. They were founded by Nintendo and Dentsu (a Japanese advertising company), with Nintendo having a large majority ownership of them. Their first game was F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, with Nintendo also publishing a Japanese-only Mahjong game for them on the Game Boy Advance. They had to seek other publishers for their other GBA games and their two GameCube games, then they released nothing after 2003 until releasing Wii Party in 2010 and took over making the Mario Party games, now being renamed to Nintendo Cube and under the full ownership of Nintendo.

Pool Edge is a fairly simple pool game, with two kind of pool: 8-ball and 9-ball. There’s a few environments to play pool in such as a cruise liner, old pub and an aircraft hanger. It plays fine, but there’s not really a lot to it, with the Super Monkey Ball games having more modes in the Billiards minigame. There are 30 trick shorts to complete and some CPU opponents to defeat, but the core pool is just what you’d expect. One interesting thing is that, other than the memory card message, the entire game is in English, so I’m curious why Nintendo didn’t opt to release it as a budget title in North America and Europe.
