SSX on Tour definitely has a ton of style, with an amazing intro video and a really great soundtrack. It’s also another EA Sports game that uses Mario, Peach and Luigi, and there’s just something inherently cool about playing as Mario while snowboarding to Iron Maiden. The Mario characters come with voices and sound effects, and there’s even an exclusive Mario themed slope, making the GameCube version the best one.

In the Tour mode, you can create a character (the creation tool is quite odd to use) picking a style for your tricks and slightly changing your looks. From here, you compete in various challenges and races to progress. There’s a few slopes this time, and they feel more unique than SSX 3, and selecting challenges from a menu. You can also free play, letting you slide down multiple tracks as they’re still interconnected.

Snowboarding feels great, especially with a great soundtrack to back it up. I’m not a big fan of how the sound and music is muted during big tricks, though, as it makes you not want to perform them. But turning and making your way down different tracks is still a ton of fun.

Fun
It’s still a worthy and engaging downhill skid-a-thon, but one whose goodness reminds us all too much of the awesome SSX 3.

Remake or remaster?
An SSX collection would be good.
