The first Jimmy Neutron game was a hit mess and, unfortunately, this one isn’t. You may be asking why it’s unfortunate? Well, because it makes this far less interesting as it’s just a really dull experience all around. This starts with Neutron making a special protector to turn his spy book into a film, but it goes wrong and the entire town is distorted, with the book overwriting the real world. Really, for the carelessness that goes into experiments, Neutron really should be locked up for the safety of everyone.

What follows is something that looks like a platformer, but I’d struggle to call it a platformer. Neutron’s jump is pitiful, with short fences blocking his path. Most of the game is heading forwards, shooting or avoiding enemies until you reach the next collectible, which will be an invention piece. Some of these are essentially keys while others are weapons. Most enemies are invincible to the majority of weapons, with only one working on them. Which just makes it tedious to cycle through the weapons.

Some of these weapons are gadgets, such as one that creates a decoy Neutron, useful for a small handful of puzzles and nothing more. You’ll also come across some minigames, like pushing a button when it reaches the square. It’s all rather slow and dull.

Poor
If anything, this is a decent start to a young gamer’s GameCube collection. It’s got a strong enough learning curve to suck you in, but not so hard that it spits you out by level two. We still hate – HATE – Jimmy’s hair though.
