Backyard Sports is a series that started off as PC shovelware and eventually became notorious on the Wii. They’re simplified versions of sports games with kids playing them. Backyard Football actually has an NFL license, so you can also play as chibi child versions of actual players.
There is some thought put into the game. It features a cast of children to pick form, each with their own backgrounds, strengths and weaknesses; and there’s also a good tutorial which explains the actual sport.
Unfortunately, the simplification of the game is done in the wrong way. Instead of making it easier to play, it’s just much slower with far less players. The CPU controlled players also seem amazing at blocking the people you pass to, so choosing a play that involves throwing, then just running (well, slowly jogging) with the ball instead seems to work most of the time, as the CPU is busy blocking and is too slow to react. A really boring sports game.
Fun
Remake or remaster?
