Bratz is a franchise that my sister was into, but it seemed to just be mainly dolls and merchandise rather than other media like or tv shows, they reminded me of the Groovy Chick stuff she was into before that. It was a big sensation that I don’t remember lasting for long (although the toys are somehow still a thing), although it was clearly long enough for some video games to be made. They focused on spoiled girls and “fashion”.

Rock Angels is based on a TV film of the same name, where the main cast of four girls start their own teen magazine, and decide to cover a rock concert where their tickets are stolen so they have to pose as their own rock band to get into the event. I had to look this up as I couldn’t figure out why the game was called “Rock Angels” – the rock concert focus of the plot is gone, this is just a fashion magazine for this game.

To make this magazine work, you need to complete tedious fetch quests. Just walk to places, buy a new outfit, find some random objects and so on. Somehow, even though walking is 95% of the game, it feels completely wrong, like you’re ice skating. You can buy rollerskates, but somehow that seems slower than walking.

The other 5% of the game are fashion shows where you tap buttons in a certain order to strike poses. You can design some tops with a very limited amount of stickers or do makeup, which has a little bit more freedom (but the game never actually saves it, so it’s all gone when you turn it off), but still very naff.

Worst
For the little miss who wants to design and be swept up in a glamorous trek around the world, we have Bratz. Making t-shirts and styling up the Angelz is fun, but while the game is definitely kid friendly, its messages aren’t all that encouraging.
