The Nintendo 64 had plenty of mahjong games, yet Extreme Mahjong DX2 (based on the The 4th MONDO21Cup, which is some televised mahjong event) is the only mahjong game on GameCube. I would have thought with it being easier to port to the GameCube and the discs being much cheaper, that there would be plenty, but that isn’t the case. Perhaps the fans of these mahjong simulation games went to PC or even java mobile versions.

Extreme Mahjong DX2 looks extremely nice. The games take place on what looks like a piece of kit from the future, but is actually just a regular mahjong automatic sorting table. There are a few camera angles, but the side view looks the best. The presentation doesn’t get in the way of the game, as everything moves nice and smoothly.

In terms of features, there’s not a lot, just an exhibition and tournament, so no in-depth training modes or career modes. Still, it seems like a decent mahjong game.

Fine
There was a tournament mode recorded at first but that recording was lost… can tell you nothing special happens from it anyway. I wonder how many of the people in the intro are still alive this day. They’re all in their 70s as of the time I’m writing this.
