After three basketball street games, it’s finally time for a football one. Unlike other EA sports games released at around the same time, this does not feature any Nintendo characters, presumably because Nintendo were working on their own arcade style football game featuring Mario.

FIFA Street seems to have the opposite problem to NBA Street in that scoring is very difficult. As it’s essentially indoor football, the goals are smaller, which means players miss the goal most times and the goalkeeper will save most other times. Your players won’t even get into position for a good pass.

Meanwhile, tackling is easy, even when players are performing fancy moves, they’re really not as effective as in NBA Street. This means that games take a bit too long and aren’t all that exciting.

Fine
So FIFA Street doesn’t reach the standards set by last month’s NBA Steet, but it’s a good first attempt and one of the best of its kind. Next time, sort out the irritating bits, shoot the annoying commentator, stick Mario up front and we’ll have another Street star.
