I knew nothing of the film that this King Arthur game is based on, and upon seeing the clips in this game, I don’t want to know anything about it. It reimagines the legend of King Arthur as a Roman era story, with Arthur and the knights being Roman soldiers, battling the savage Saxons. If you’re going to alter a story this much, why not just make something new?

The gameplay consists of the most tedious hack n slash gameplay I’ve ever played. You just button mash your way through enemies with zero thought and it’s all just a mindless mess. You have a light attack, heavy attack, bow and a special attack (which seems like a regular attack with a magical glow, which seems to go against the “realistic” reimagining of the film).

Controls get even worse for levels when you’re on horseback, as now you can’t turn around easily, with some of your attacks replaced with awkward horse kicks. The first five levels are an annoying escort quest (defending the same person, who gets killed anyway and turns out to be a decoy) but on other missions it’s much more fun to just run past all the enemies than actually engage them. Somewhat of an issue for a hack n slash game.

Worst
It’s hilarious. At least it would be if it weren’t so sluggish and repetitive to play. The kindest option is simply to attempt to canter all the way to the end of the level, where there’s a door that needs to be horsed down while more savages attack.
