SETA had quite a relationship with Nintendo on the N64, developing multiple golf games – including the only third party 64DD game – as well as the Aleck 64 arcade system (their last game for this was also in 2004), a cartridge with a modem and a bio-sensor for reading heart rate for use in Tetris 64. When it comes to GameCube, however, this was their only game, which was also published by Nintendo. In fact, it was their only home console game this generation and the last game they developed on their own. Until their closure five years later, there’s not much information about them, other than them assisting with Project Sylpheed on the Xbox 360.

While SETA mainly focused on the analogue stick control method on their N64 golf games, something that is popular with GameCube golf games, this uses a more traditional way, although still using the analogue stick. You hold the stick left while a power bar increases, then flick it to stop, then the bar comes back down and you press A for accuracy. It’s quite smooth and actually feels more interactive than the one button method, it’s probably my favourite controls in a golf game.

Outside of the controls, it’s quite an average golf game. There’s a good amount of courses, although the graphics haven’t evolved much since their N64 games. There’s a few boring characters to choose from and a character creator that is a pain to use. It’s more the core controls that make this one enjoyable.

Fun
i can’t understand a word in the game as i don’t read Japanese language but i still enjoy this. i can’t believe so few people know this game exists still. Legend of Golfer is totally worth playing, just give it a shot like i did. If you like golf then this is for you

Remake or remaster?
The control scheme is neat, so having it reused would be good.
