Another year, another Madden. To me, the core gameplay has barely changed at all, but I also don’t understand the deep stuff. I did find that I could make more sucessful runs and dodge players a bit more easily – with various assists and EAsy play turned on, of course. The stadium creator is now a bit more in depth as well.

One really nice mode is the mini-camp. They’re a selection of fun minigames, such as passing at the right time to make a ball through a hoop and tackling while obstacles are in the way. Each one has targets for you to reach, and it’s all rather nice.

Fun
If you’ve ever had your fingers burned by an American football game that’s too difficult to learn or too dumb to put up much of a fight, Madden 2004 is an excellent entry point to a fascinating sport, as well as a lasting challenge. Take a punt, and you may well be touched. Down.
