Just like Frontlines, this decides to start with the big moment rather than end, this time with the big moment being the attack on Pearl Harbour. This means that, once again, the most exciting level is the tutorial. This one is rather odd, too. The first part has you running through a ship that is in the process of blowing up, then hopping onto a turret, while the second is an on-rails shooter. Which means the big part of the game doesn’t have much of the core gameplay in it.

The rest of the levels are just a bit dull. It’s a competent enough first person shooter for the time, and has a feeling of being designed for a PC, despite not actually having a PC version. Some of the objectives are also just annoying – you’ll spend ages in the final level roaming around empty rooms looking for the right prompts to trigger all the switches you need to progress. It’s all rather boring.

Poor
Rising Sun is by no means a disaster, but the clockwork game design, poor save structure and cheerless visuals failed to excite us. Don’t be taken in by the magnificent music and atmospheric sound. This is more a case of a fallen icon than a Rising Sun.

Remake or remaster?
A Medal of Honor collection would be good.
