Command Mission is an RPG spin-off of the Mega Man X series, which itself is a successor from the main Mega Man series. It follows the adventures of an android called X and that’s pretty much all you know. Strangely, the GameCube never got Mega Man X7 or X8 (both released on PS2), but did get this. If you’re like me and don’t know much about the lore of Mega Man X, then you will be extremely lost.

It starts by X being separated from his teammates by a tiny amount of rubble. They’re infiltrating a city where Mavericks (which seem to be robots that want independence) have taken control. The game makes a big deal of one of your teammates (who has said one or two lines) betraying you before you get knocked out and wake up in a building with people talking about a resistance and rebellion (which are opposing forces). X quickly joins one of them and becomes distraught when someone sacrifices their life for him – he’d met him a few seconds earlier. A bounty hunter also quickly abandons everything for you when you tell him about this story.

With the non-sensical plot, there’s also the levels themselves, which consist mainly of bland corridors with you going forwards until the next random battle starts. There’s a few bosses which have more interesting designs (the first is a giant hippo robot), but the rest of the game is just quite bland.

Fine
Unfortunately the game is too linear, and is a little too easy to take seriously, and therefore we can only really recommend it to novices. Seasoned RPGers will get very bored with it.

Remake or remaster?
Perhaps include it as a bonus in a Mega Man Legends collection, as it was omitted from the Mega Man X collection.
Official Ways to get the game
