Future GPX Cyber Formula is an anime about futuristic formula 1 races – so a video game adaptation is a rather simple thing to do. You choose one of the many different tuned up cars to race with and race around courses that take place in cities. It’s a lot like Jacques Villeneuve’s Racing Vision, except actually done well.

The biggest reason for this is that the game is actually fast, and the handling is also easy enough to cope with manoeuvring at speeds. It doesn’t feel quite as fast as the speedometer claims, but still fast enough. The cars also have different abilities. Aero cars can transformed into a more streamlined straight for a faster boost.

With a lot of cars to choose from, different GPs to paly and a few modes (such as one where you earn points for racing well), there’s plenty of stuff for fans of the show to sink their teeth into.

Fun
While the PS2 game only supported two-player racing, the GCN will feature full four-player split screen heats. More characters from the popular anime have been added to the playable roster, and more licensed songs now diversify the soundtrack. There’s also something called “Voice Variation,” though we’re not entirely sure on what that means. Finally, Sunrise points out that the game balance, graphics, and other areas have been polished to a fine luster. All in all, GameCube owners seem to be getting the premiere version of the title
