NASCAR 2005 encourages you go straight into the main campaign mode. Here, your created character (with very limited options) is sat at a red light when a NASCAR driver challenges you to a race. This takes place on an actual race track in a city and is quite good fun. This is the only street race in the game, and this track doesn’t seem to be available in any other mode. Still, its interesting they went to this effort for just the introduction before you get to the main menu.

The rest of the game is exactly what you’d expect: lots of racing around ovals against lots of other cars. Instead of sticking to a car, you get various contracts and move between different cars that way, before eventually becoming an owner of your own car. It seems very in depth and the racing itself is well done. I just wonder if it could have had more of a storyline to have more like the initial street race sprinkled throughout.

Fine
Ultimately, no matter which console you own, if you’re a NASCAR fan you simply must go out and pick up NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup. It re-creates the NASCAR experience in spectacular fashion, and all of the included modes, series options, and extras provide an excellent amount of value for the cost. Despite the removal of a few features that made NASCAR Thunder 2004 seem so complete, EA Sports has trumped that release by including so many new features in this year’s game.
