The second Fairly OddParents game on GameCube, and it definitely uses a lot from the first game, with similar movement and graphics. That said, those parts of the original were decent, so why break it? This time, the entirety of the fairy world is in chaos as everyone has lost their powers and has to resort to collecting magic stars in order to perform wishes, which work differently in this game.

The wishes now take the form of items you can use within the levels, used for getting over gaps or solving very simple puzzles. Once you get taught a puzzle, you’ll repeat it a lot of times throughout the short levels. There’s some interesting ideas, but none of them are particularly exciting to use.

It also means that the entire game feels the same. The first had the wishes create some unique little gameplay segments – such as being a dog – which made the game a lot more interesting. The only proper gameplay change here are some really bad on-rail shooter segments where you play as one of the faries.

Fine
As it stands, Fairly Odd Parents: Shadow Showdown doesn’t offer more than the bare minimum. It squeaks by with bland, tired game mechanics and graphics that just don’t hold up to today’s gamer.
