For NHL 2004, I mentioned that the game was extremely difficult, even on the easiest settings. This game turns it around and lets you make the game as easy as you want it. You can also turn the game speed up to make things swift and exciting, resulting in some very high scoring matches. Some reviews complained about the game being too “arcadey”, but I think it’s a bonus.
Among some new franchise and long-term modes, there’s also a party mode, which features big head mode. There are just a couple of variations of 1-4 players trying to score into the same goal – a few different minigames would have made the mode a bit more worthwhile. The core gameplay is good fun, though.
Fun
As a video game, hockey works well enough to hurdle at least a few transatlantic sporting barriers – it’s quick, easy to learn and high scoring. Try it, then cross your fingers for Burnout 3.
