Roadkill is a game that takes the vehicular combat of games like Vigilante 8 and Twisted Metal and turns it into an open world game. This sounds like a great idea in theory, but it feels like Terminal Reality were more concerned with the cutscenes than they were about the game itself, with lots of high quality CGI videos introducing each mission – some of them rather brutal, too.

But once you take control, you just drive around slowly and shoot everything. There are different gangs but they’re nothing more than different cars, with no actual personality and the lack of subtitles means you can barely hear the dialogue when playing the game. You don’t really need to know what is going on as you just drive somewhere and usually blow something up.

Vehicle combat games work well due to having lots of fun different arenas to fight in, and Roadkill’s open world maps feel like a single Vigilante 8 map with a few more roads inside it, and the three maps in the game have zero personality and you’ll barely notice any difference in style throughout the whole 3 hours of playing. Other than some wonky ragdoll physics when hitting people (I’m not sure why anyone would walk when drivers are rewarded with running everyone over), there really isn’t all that much excitement, as even driving through large battles (which can happen without your involvement) is unremarkable.

Poor
RoadKill focuses on the adult content. All the spoken dialogue is loaded with swearing, prostitutes are everywhere, and the talk radio stations may contain the most sexually explicit content in any video game to date. The result is an immature and offensive clone of a far superior game.
