The third Scooby-Doo game I’ve played. The first was a point and click adventure with inspiration from Resident Evil in terms of camera angles and controls, while the second was a rather fun 3D platformer with metroidvania elements. Mystery Mayhem is very much like Luigi’s Mansion, with Scooby and Shaggy capturing ghosts.

This time it’s real ghosts, too. The Scooby gang reach a library with ghosts running amok. To begin with, you have to sneak around and avoid them until you find a magical book. This book has the power to capture ghosts (and other creatures once you find their respective pages), which is the main thing you’ll do throughout the game.

When you approach a ghost, you can pull out the book to catch a ghost in a tether. Then you mash whatever face button is on screen until it changes or you capture the ghost. It’s immensely mind numbing and you have to capture every enemy in each level. Outside of this awful combat, there’s just a few bad puzzles and slowly walking around with awkward controls.

Poor
There is simply no justification for a mystery game where very puzzle is solved by pressing the A button. when we say ‘puzzle’ we mean ‘climbing on top of a box’ or ‘crawling through a gap’. That’s about as involving as it gets.

Remake or remaster?
Nothing for this.
