The Momotarō Dentetsu series is a long-running Japanese series of board-game-like video games. It’s a roll-and-move adventure all about navigating Japan. A station is picked at random and your aim is to be the first to get there. Succeed and you’ll get a load of money, but if you’re the furthest away when this happens, the God of Poverty will follow you and mess you up.
I got frustrated fairly early on as the first station I had was in an awkward place and you need an exact roll to land on the space. I even tried cheating with save states, which is when I discovered that the dice rolls are chosen before the round even starts.

Once you have money, you can then invest in properties dotted across the map. These can yield more money and in December, Santa will give more money to the biggest investor. Meanwhile, the person being followed by the God of Poverty (which can take multiple forms) will have more and more money sapped away. It really doesn’t feel like you get much choice in what happens in this game. Really, it’s best to ignore all the other stuff and just focus on getting to the next station first.

Poor
Momotarou Dentetsu is a very popular series in Japan apparently. It’s a bit like monopoly, but with all sorts of random events happening that make you want to pull your hair out. You know how in Mario Party you enjoy seeing the opponent have bad things happening to them? Well in this game I just felt sympathy. You could play this game to some degree without knowing Japanese, but I wouldn’t really advise it. I understood it well enough to play a game on the easiest difficulty and win.. but that’s about it.
