Academy City Varanoir: Roses is tactical role playing mixed with a visual novel taking place in a school for heroes. It’s a spin-off form the Generation of Chaos series, which itself is based on Spectral Force.

The game features an immense amount of dialogue, with you able to make choices that will affect the outcome of the story. It follows Mew, a young girl that gets sent to hero school by her immensely pervy grandpa (who is apparently a leader in the Spectral Force games), where they discover that her sword is some kind of legendary blade. There’s a ton of characters you’ll interact with by going to different locations.

The combat starts off as a 1v1 turn based tactical combat but you’ll eventually get other students forming your team. Not that I got far enough in the game for that. After the tutorial scenario, the next one I encountered featured a single opponent that completely trounced me. Seemingly, buried somewhere in all the text, is a way to improve your stats outside of repeatedly failing the first mission, but I couldn’t find it. If you read Japanese well, it seems like a decent jaunt.

?
It can be summed up in one word: an overwhelming game of luck. Even just clearing the game
atwiki.jp (Translated)
requires a lot of random elements, but defeating a specific character requires a huge number of attempts, making it a grindy game. Even the basic element of SLGs, which is to predict the future, calculate, make plans, and act, is dependent on luck. It even destroys the fun of the game. The game has a decent amount of content, so users who have mastered the art of Kusoge Hunter and have the determination to conquer a 10,000-story tower , may enjoy it, but average gamers should never buy it.
Remake or remaster?
This series could be localised.
