This was apparently a theatrical Nickelodeon film that I completely missed, although my partner did remember the creepy designs of the cows, which just don’t look quite right standing upright and their udders up front. Luckily, you don’t need to know anything about the film for this game as you play as a new cow arriving on the farm, getting to choose your breed, gender and name.

This doesn’t go down the usual route of a video game tie in, as it’s not a platformer or an action game. It’s more of a simplified Animal Crossing. With a lot of fetch quests. The overall goal is to buy loads of equipment for the barn to turn it into a nighttime bar.

The area you get to explore is small at the start, but opens up as you do enough tasks for the animals, and big enough that you’ll need to use a bicycle to get around. A lot of the quests are just looking for objects or gathering resources, while others are focused on the game’s mechanic of squirting (the game’s term, not mine).

If you put on some sunglasses (presumably eyes are the only noticeable features of a cow), you are free to shoot a white substance out of what looks like udders (my cow was male, so I’m not entirely sure what is going on), and you often have to squirt your bodily juices over your fellow friends.

It’s not a game I enjoyed, but I can see the appeal. It’s something to do a bit at a time rather than a long singular playthrough, and I feel like it’s far more interesting than most film tie-ins. I’d even say that this is worth remembering more than the film.

Fine
Messing around on the farm is a charming experience and, with numerous items to kit out your party barn, it’s pretty sizeable. As movie licensed titles go, it’s surprisingly full fat.
