When it comes to racing simulators, I would think that most people would want a selection of cars from a wide array of different manufacturers. This didn’t stop companies from trying, and Lotus do have a big enough range of cars to provide a lot of variety, including some classic formula cars and things like the Lotus Esprit S1, which has a unique “00?” colour scheme.

The single player is done quite well. Instead of completing lots of tournaments, you have lots of little challenges instead. Naturally, some of these are regular circuit racing, but some are tests of your control (which forces you to use manual transmission), some street races and some fun side things like smashing into bowling pins with your car. It’s a good mixture of things.

The core gameplay itself feels a bit loose. Slowing down doing a corner will almost always result in a spin out. The AI also feel more like obstacles than other races, too, and I manage to completely break them by just stopping on the racing line. They’ll bump into you, reverse, bump into you again and before long they’ll all be bumping into each other. Once you get to first, carefully sticking to the racing line will generally prevent them from overtaking you.

Fine
Far too many good racers have been released over the past few years. After playing many of them it becomes very hard to find interest and enjoyment within the lesser appreciated racers such as Kuju’s Lotus Challenge. The game has many flaws. For one, its visuals aren’t impressive in the slightest. And two, its gameplay is quite often more frustrating than it is enjoyable
