This arena fighter is a sequel to One Piece: Grand Battle 3, but is notable because it was the first one in the series to be released outside of Japan, simply called “One Piece: Grand Battle”. So for people outside of Japan, this was a good release for fans of the show as it was the first time to play the game without importing.

The game itself is pretty much the same as the previous one, with the same levels returning and the characters feeling no different. There’s just a small amount of additional ones, with the story (which just puts you against specific enemies on specific levels) is loosely based on a new part of the anime.

Poor
As it is, the number of moves at your disposal wouldn’t even be sufficient for a scrolling beat-’em-up, let alone a full-fledged fighting game. Fans of the series will love One Piece’s visuals but will be disappointed with just about every other aspect of the game.

Remake or remaster?
In a One Piece collection, perhaps.
