I’ve never heard of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, and after trying out the game, I still have no idea what Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is. The fancy anime intro does show off a ton of unique and interesting looking characters, which all look like they come from completely different shows. From some of the in-game animations, I’m guessing the insanity is part of the point.

The gang get invited to some kind of challenge, but when they get there they get imprisoned. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo escapes and needs to help everyone get out. There’s some very basic platforming and puzzles, but it generally feels like moving around in an RPG – a bit like Paper Mario, if it wasn’t any good. Once an enemy runs into you, you get whisked into a battle.

The battles are essentially games of dodgems, or the “stay on the platform” minigame from Mario Party 1. You have a rush attack and one power attack, but once you’ve played one fight, you’ve pretty much seen everything. You can play the fights individually if you want, including against others, but there’s not much to it at all.

Poor
We think we’ve seen something like this as a mini game in Mario Party. It’s possible that someone could make a fun game based exclusively on the idea of knocking your opponents out of a ring, but Hudson sure didn’t try with Dasshutsu Hajike Royal. This game has some serious issues, most notably the frequent little pauses that disrupt battle. It seems like the game is loading up data for items and moves. Imagine if Street Fighter had paused to load up Ryu’s fireball and you should be able to see how annoying this can be.
