Donkey has found the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand and accidentally turns a bunch of things into vehicles, so everyone decides to take part in a tournament, using various beats or magical contraptions. I knew I was in for a bad time when Donkey, riding the dragon (hey, the Dronkeys had to be mar somehow) related the same unfunny line within the first 20 seconds of the first race.

What doesn’t help this relentless onslaught of repeated lines is that you have to use the same character for every cup, as you have to complete them all in one go to unlock them. You can do individual cups, but only once you’ve done this main, agonising mode.

There’s absolutely nothing to the racing, either, racing well isn’t linked to winning, and the items are rather dull. Winning is entirely up to the CPU cheating or not, as you can be at top speed and still get overtaken at the end.

There’s not even any or the craziness or humour of the films, and everything is just generic and bland. None of the tracks are exciting and the only surprising thing is that this was not ported to the Wii, where shovel ware performed much better. Even a notice on the box saying “Works on Wii” would have been something.

Poor
So Gamecube could have been buried with Twilgiht Princess, and we’d all have remembered it with an affectionate teat in the eye. Instead, it goes with this, and the anguished wailing you get when you stub your toe. Bah.
