A PAL exclusive Formula One game (on all platforms, too) that was also the last Formula One game from EA as the license then went to Codemasters (who were then later purchased by EA, so the license is now basic with them). F1 Career Challenge seems to be a celebration of their previous games as it covers four seasons, starting with 1999, which was what EA’s first F1 game covered.

For the most part, this is very similar to F1 2002, with a different progression and career mode. Thankfully, they haven’t locked every single feature this time and you can turn on damage and rain In single races from the start. The career has you play as your own character (well, one of five faces) and challenge the real racers across four seasons.

The AI seems different this time as they make mistakes, but it seems almost cartoonish at times with them just failing to make some difficult turns, crashing into each other. I understand that this can happen in professional F1 racing, but they all seem as bad as me, which is just odd. The graphics are also quite poor, with low detailed tracks and a lot of pop-in. Your car also looks like it’s hovering above the track rather than driving around it. This is just the previous game with bad drivers.

Poor
A good, deep, sensible racer then. Realistic? You betcha. But a non-stop barrel of laughs? Not exactly.
